What is the difference between an adventurer level and a guild level?
In retromud, you can advance your level in two separate ways. Your player level is called your adventurer level. For instance, when you see a player that is level 64, it means they have 64 adventurer levels. You do not gain any skills or spells with adventurer levels, therefore it is very important to join and advance your way through guilds. You do so by advancing your guild level. For instance, the same player with 64 adventurer levels may, or may not, have 64 guild levels. While you may advance your adventurer levels without advancing your guild levels, you may not advance in guild levels unless you have enough adventurer levels.

How do I advance my adventurer level?
Each major city on each planet has an Adventurer's Guild. Simply find the advancement room in any of these cities and type 'advance'. This will advance you 1 level for each time you type it, provided you have the experience points required.

How do I advance my guild level? Each guild has its own advancement room. Locate this room by exploring or asking on your guild channel. Simply type 'advance' when in this room to advance 1 guild level. (Note: You can only advance your guild level if you have a free adventurer's level).

What does "You have no free adventurer levels" mean?
In order to advance a guild level, you must have at least one free adventurer level. In your 'score' you can see your total number of adventurer levels, as well as your total number of guild levels. Your total adventurer levels must be at least 1 greater than your guild levels before you can advance your guild level.

Do my statistics increase with each adventurer level?
Yes. Based on your racial stat potential, you have the chance of increasing each stat by as many as 1 point with each adventurer level.

Do my statistics increase with each guild level?
Yes. Guild levels will be your main source for statistic growth. Based on the guild bonuses of the guild you are leveling in (see guild pages for greater details), you can accomplish a very great gain in many stats.

Do my current stats affect my increases with each level?
No. Unlike Diku-type muds, having a higher wisdom or intellegence, or any stat for that matter, will not increase your spell point gains or hit point gains or any of your gains. All stat increases are determined by random rolls which are effected by your stat potential or guild bonuses (see two above questions).

Why don't I gain any practices or trains?
Retromud does not use a system of trains and practices. As you explore and party you gain experience. Experience is used to advance both adventurer and guild levels and to study and train your skills/spells. Some players spend a great time gaining experience to train better, while others use experience to level as soon as possible. How you use your experience is up to you! (Note: training costs gold in most cases, while advancing levels does not in any case).
